Youth at City Council

Youth at City Council

Youth @City Council is a civic engagement program that takes place at City Hall and in the community of Rancho Cordova. In this program students come to gain knowledge of local government, the role and function of City Council, develop leadership skills, and network with peers and local government officials. The ultimate goal of this program is to highlight the power that youth have in a community and the importance of being civically engaged. Youth leaders will create 3 mock ordinances by the end of the program and host a Mock City Council Meeting to share and vote on their mock ordinances.

Program Goals

  • Increase interest in civic issues and action on civic issues
  • Improve civic efficacy and demonstrate civic participation skills (e.g., compromise, perspective-taking).
  • Empower youth to contribute to positive change in their communities.
  • Develop healthy relationships with caring adult role models.
  • Guide youth to identify, manage and appropriately express emotions and behaviors.
